Combines excellent production values with magnificent reproduction of many colour photographs and radiographs, which perfectly complement the text. This book is invaluable to both undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students, and is a useful adjunct to the standard textbooks. Practitioners looking for an easy-to-follow guide to ear, nose and throat disease evaluation that is both practical and colourful will also find it of interest.
Description: This atlas provides a rational, well thought out approach to the diseases of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) in small animals. It goes beyond the standard textbook approach to ENT disease by allowing the reader access to the insight and perspective of five seasoned specialists in the field of dermatology, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and pathophysiology.
Purpose: The purpose is to serve as a guide in the diagnosis and management of clinical ENT cases. The authors more than meet their objectives, serving up excellent advice and counsel regarding diagnostics, treatment, case management, and outcome. Following each case presentation is a discussion in which general aspects of the case are reviewed.
Audience: The atlas is intended for the progressive practitioner or student, but is of service to any who want to learn more about this particular specialty area. The photographs, radiographs, and illustrations are an excellent review for surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine residents studying for boards. The authors are well-known and respected in their varying fields and together form an unprecedented authority in the area of small animal ENT.
Features: The atlas is broken down into chapters based on anatomical areas of the ear, nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, larynx, trachea, oral cavity, and pharynx. With each chapter, the book takes the reader through a case-based approach to common presenting complaints, differentials, and diagnostic workups. Accompanying the text are fabulous color photographs of the lesions seen with each malady and pertinent line drawings of surgical procedures.
Assessment: I would highly recommend this atlas to any who wish to expand their knowledge base of this specialty area. The quality is excellent and the images alone are of use to the practicing clinician for disease identification. The case- based approach is very user friendly and imparts a large amount of information in a succinct, well-written style.
